Joey & Joy-it was SO good to see you guys Saturday! We didn't get to spend alot of time together...lives are busy...but atleast we got to eat and let you guys meet Ella. Thanks for the adorable Bama clothes and for lunch (no coins next time! we're getting yours!). Joy, I can never trust you again. LOL just kidding! Hope you're feeling better. We hope to come visit soon...but we never asked when ya'll were planning on moving? That would've been important. =)

I married a strange man
I figured it was okay to post this here since this is "our" blog, but he never posts himself. :) I don't think he even reads it. LOL Today we're at lunch and I had yet another revelation that my husband is weird...quirky...whatever you want to call it. The newest? He hates styrofoam. Not from a functionatory (is that a word?) position, but just the "texture" of it and hates styrofoam cups the worst. So me taking bites out of his cup sent him over the edge, which most of you know, is not where Jason goes alot, but makes for pretty funny stuff. I had a good lunch today.
I can't think of them all, but another quirk is that on his sandwiches he never puts 2 slices of cheese together...said it's weird when he bites into it. I have to do cheese, meat, cheese. So, of course, I don't do it that way b/c it's just complicated and he switches it himself. There are more (we discussed his weirdness in the car one day) and I'll have to come back and post them later. It's amazing the things you STILL find out about a person after 7 years.

yet another devotional
I get these emailed to me everyday. Some days they hit home and other days....eh. I rarely post two in a row, but this one is wonderful and something we all need to keep in mind...especially when maybe we're in a low spot in our lives. Jason and I have been going through some tough times lately. I'm not quite sure what all this means, but I know God has a plan. He has something specific he wants both of us to do and I have a feeling we're not quite where he wants us to be...yet...we're still works in progress. Thank God I'm still a work in progress!
Your stand-in

"You… were once far away from God. You were His enemies, separated from Him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now He has reconciled you to Himself through the death of Christ in His physical body. As a result, He has brought you into His own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before Him without a single fault." (Colossians 1:211-22 NLT)
True believers are constantly in a state of shock. How can this be? How can I stand before a holy God who sees everything and have Him unable to find a single fault in me? Is He blind? I know myself. I know the attitudes in my heart. I know the baggage I carry around. I have been a Christian all my life; don't you think I would have this down by now? Well I don't, and that makes this blamelessness even harder to believe.
But believe it I do, and believe it I will. It's my only chance. My only chance of survival before a holy God is that Paul (the writer of Colossians) is right about this, and the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in His physical body has shielded God from the whole truth about me. Christ is my advocate. He is continually recasting the scenes of my life in another light.
Christ is my shield. I know the Bible says this, and I've always thought that was talking about my protection from harm. But I think it also means He is my shield against a holy God who must deal justly with sin. (And if you think of it, you wouldn't want it any other way. If God isn't just, there's no justice anywhere.) That's why Jesus took it so badly on the cross. That's what all the blood was about. So God would look at us, looking for sin, and crane His neck trying to look around Jesus, and be unable to see us outside of what Christ has done for us. And Jesus is saying, "Forget trying to find any blame with John. I've got him covered. Don't worry; he's mine. Remember I took care of all this on the cross. Your holiness and justice are in good shape—by the way—and John, and all these people here who believe in me, are safe in my arms."
Too much, huh? Now does that make you want to just go out there and see how much sin you can get away with? That's the farthest thing from your mind. Once you get this, you know you don't deserve it, so you want to do everything you can to live a life worthy of what Christ is doing for you right now, because He's your stand-in.

When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, "At home even the hired men have food enough to spare, and here I am, dying of hunger! I will go home to my father…." Luke 15:17-18)

All of us can identify with the story of the wayward son found in Luke 15. He had spent all his father's money on wild living and "came to his senses" when he ended up working on a pig farm just to survive and noticed that what the pigs were eating suddenly looked good to him. That's when he decided to go back to his father, admit his bad decisions and offer to work as a hired hand on his father's estate. But something else happened when he arrived.
Going home was a good practical move for his situation. He was willing to settle on being a hired hand. The surprise was that he wasn't given even a chance to apply for the job. He was welcomed as a son. Before he could get a word in edgewise he was smothered in his father's love and a welcome-home party began.
What can you do in the face of this? Fall on your knees and worship. God the Father's great big hands are open to us and we are embraced without judgment. This is like no love we have ever known before or will ever know.
We crawled back home ready for the worst—ready to eat crow. We were prepared for the taunts from the others in the family—even from the servants. We weighed the cost and decided the embarrassment was worth it. We calculated all that. We left bragging and return in humiliation. We left on top of the world and return a failure. And yet there is no "I told you so" speech. There is just joy and acceptance.
Worship? It's all we can do to hold ourselves together. We know what we deserve, and this isn't it. This is a party! God has done it all for us. One day we were sucking up to pigs, the next we are escorted into our father's house and in the process, we discover the wonderfully good news that we've always had a home here. This is where we belong.
